Golden Tail Retirement questions

What is Golden Tail Retirement for?

A cash-savings storyline for longer afternoons and fewer committee meetings. Despite the name, this is not a pension, investment portfolio or retirement-income promise. There is no tax relief or annuity in the model. Its story purpose is a cash reserve for a slower pace of life. Everything on this site is fictional; nothing can be applied for.

What rate does Golden Tail Retirement pay?

3.90% AER / gross p.a. (variable), gross, before tax. It can change, because the rate is variable; projections hold it constant only for arithmetic.

Can I take money out of Golden Tail Retirement?

Unlimited withdrawals; annual interest remains in the pot unless removed.

How much can I put into Golden Tail Retirement?

Opening / maximum balance: £500.00 to £100,000.00.

Does Golden Tail Retirement charge fees?

No account fee in the model. The only cost is patience: money locked away cannot be spent.

Investments questions

Shared across the whole range.

Can an investment fall in value?

Yes. The three fictional investment products hold a made-up fund whose value moves every day, so the pages show low, mid and high growth scenarios after charges rather than a promise. The value can end below the amount paid in.

What is the difference between the investment account, the ISA and the SIPP?

They hold the same fictional fund; the wrapper differs. The general account has no allowance and no relief. The stocks and shares ISA caps new money at a demo £20,000 a year and applies no tax to growth. The SIPP adds demo tax relief but locks the pot until age 57.

What do the investment products charge?

A total annual charge of 0.45% on the account and the ISA and 0.50% on the SIPP, modelled as a deduction from growth. Each product page shows what a 1.00% charge would cost instead.

How does the SIPP tax relief work?

Every £80 paid in becomes £100 with demo basic-rate relief. Higher-rate relief, employer contributions and allowance tapers are not modelled.

Is Golden Tail Retirement an investment?

No. It is a cash savings pot with a variable rate that sits in the investments range because of its purpose. It has no growth scenarios and its value cannot fall.

Frequently asked squeaks

The questions and answers on this page come from AcornBank’s single shared FAQ collection, so the same wording appears here, on the Investments hub and in the full FAQ list. Every answer is about a fictional product: 3.90% AER / gross p.a. (variable) is a demo figure and nothing can be applied for. The summary and worked figures below give the numbers the answers refer to.

What the example does not promise

All figures are invented and shown to make the demo useful to read and crawl. No money is held, no application is available, and no deposit-protection, regulatory or tax-wrapper status is claimed. Calculations do not account for personal tax, inflation or unstated changes in rates. The fictional bank manager can guarantee only that the next paragraph contains no real acorns.
